The area seemed rather slummy, compared to Spain, in that a lot of walls had tiles falling off or paint peeling off, something the Ishikawas never saw elsewhere in their European travels. There is a fine museum of old art next door, which made it easier for the Ishikawas to tell their cab drivers where to go.
