The Ishikawas left the Nicolet's Swiss hamlet, changing trains at Geneva, they went on to Paris instead of returning to Italy. While in Anacy, the Ishikawas stayed at a cheap hotel chain called Ibis, which they also utilized in Lyon and Avignon later in their trip. While in Paris, they stayed at a sister hotel of the chain called Novotel, conveniently located in the Gare de Lyon. Fumiyo had sworn she'd never return to Paris after an unpleasent stay there in 1980. Still, it was preferable to going back to Italy where they had hotel reservations that needed to be cancelled. One of the first places they visited, a short train ride outside of Paris and then a long wait in line to get in, was Versailles.

Mr. Versailles mocks visitors standing in line to view his palace.
