The Nicolet's deposited the Ishikawas in Lyon, Jacques' home town. Cat had a great meal at Hotel George: skate in brown sauce with capers and green beans with the chef's favourite goat cheese and a glass of the fine house white wine, from a menu from this restaurant from 1923. The Ishikawas stayed at the much cheaper Ibis hotel chain, as they had in Anacy.

The following day, the Ishikawas dodged the rain by ducking into a jewelry store. Cat's watch had expired at the Nicolet's country house and in need of a new one, he saw one that looked cheap, but the proprietor, who miraculously spoke English, persuaded Cat to buy an even cheaper one.

When the rain stopped, the Ishikawas explored churches (this page) and Roman ruins (next page) of this intruiguing city, before catching their train to Avignon.
